The Fate of the Furious is the most distanced entry into the franchise from what it originally was and has now ventured into full blown over the top action flick territory. It's impressive though they the filmmakers can still somehow keep the 'family' focus aspects through all insane things going on throughout the film.
The Fast and the Furious franchise has certainly seen worse and better.
