Review of The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006) by Jamie R — 29 Jul 2013
Third in the series (But 7th chronologically) is 'Tokyo Drift', which was at the time a totally non-sequitur, what-is-going-on, hey-there's-Vin-Diesel-oh-now-he's-gone-again movie, but now it makes sense. The film differs from the original two, although it doesn't necessarily add anything interesting in it's place. The basic plot of it is an American teenager named Sean Boswell (Lucas Black) who drives so fast he ends up in Tokyo where he drives fast with Lil' Bow Wow (I think it's just Bow Wow now.) There might have been a bit about crashing and avoiding arrest by moving but who cares. At this point, the producers know the audience doesn't care about a lot of story or anything, just races, and that's all this one's about. Like, ALL about.
The races are awesome. They're fast, they're intense, they're great. If you're watching it for those, you're in for a good time. if not, you should just skip it, it only comes into context after Fast & Furious 6 anyway. I Said before that 'Drift' is somewhat different from the first two, but what it keeps from the first two is those awesome races, which are indeed awesome, but after you see them over and over they aren't so amazing anymore, and we miss the fun of the first two.
