Review of The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006) by Darius G — 06 Oct 2014
Tokyo Drift.
Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift is the third movie in the Fast and the Furious series. The series is a story line of close group of street racers. The first two follows the same group while the third switches completely. Tokyo Drift follows the life of a eighteen year old boy who is forced to live with his father in Tokyo. The young boy is punished for street racing in America while living with his mother. His mother then sends him to Tokyo to live with his military father in hopes to get the boy to stop racing. This does not work, and the boy gets involved with the biggest street racing and drug group in all of Tokyo.
The movie is part of a great series and lives up to the expectations of the series. However the first two movies in the series brings the audience close to the group in them. This movie does not follow the same group of people. It switches and follows somebody who has not been brought up in the previous two movies. So, it knocks down the movie some because of its just randomness from the beginning.
The graphics in this movie do bring it up from anything that people might hit on it for. The graphics are phenomenal with all of the details that have been put into every race and every car. The produces took the time to add special details to every car even cars in the background that would not be noticed upon first view.
The overall plot of the movie is pretty simple. Somebody becomes a new kids and falls in love with the popular girl. The new kid on then block then has to save the girl he loves from some tragedy. The plot could have been greatly improved and been more complex. For such a good movie and series they dropped the ball on this part of the movie. Twist could have easily been added into and brought this movie to one of the great movies of its year. This is another hiccup in the movie's overall grade that could have been averted.
The dialogue in Tokyo Drift was improved however when compared to its two predecessors. It was a very complex wording considering how simple the plot was. This dialogue took this simple plot and made it almost a nonfactor, because it allowed you to be very involved and feel as if you are in the movie. This for me s something that is increasingly had to do because of the changing lives and world we live in today. The writers were able to complete this task and relate it to people's emotions and have the audience involved to a high level.
With all being considered this was a well written and produced movie. This movie left its audience feeling if they had just been involved in a car race are crash. It made the audience hearts beating and physically tired from all of the excitement. I would give this movie a solid nine out of ten and two thumbs up.
