Review of The Fast and the Furious (2001) by Sam P — 11 Apr 2012

I have to admit, I didnâ(TM)t expect to enjoy this film, but I was surprised to find myself getting into it. The storyline may be very basic but it is actually well plotted, better then youâ(TM)d expect, and with Rob Cohenâ(TM)s majestic direction it looks like a magnificent action thriller, weaving the camera in amongst the characters.

The reason why this film works seems to be the friendship between Brian & Toretto, Paul Walker & Vin Diesel create a very good bromance between the two of them, their characters suiting each other, the more thoughtful and intelligent Brian coupled with the more emotional and rough Toretto allows their friendship to develop in a believable and accepting manner.

Both of them have their love interests, Michelle Rodriguezâ(TM)s Leticia in love with Dom, and Brian falling for Torettoâ(TM)s sister Mia. The two of them donâ(TM)t have huge roles, as this is very much a boys film, however they suit their roles well and are just as appealing as the two main characters.

The action is always gonna be the mainstay of the film, as well as the series, but in this film, there is actually a fairly acceptable plot backing it up, Brian a LAPD officer trying to integrate undercover in Torretoâ(TM)s team, who may be responsible for jacking several trucks of their cargo. It does have similar elements to âPoint Breakâ?, but in a complimentary way. I enjoyed this film for the action, but also actually accepted the plot, and am willing to give the sequel, 2 Fast 2 Furious a try later.
