Review of The Fast and the Furious (2001) by Mike D — 08 Jun 2013
Looking back on it after all these years, 'The Fast and the Furious' is still one of the most high powered, exciting movies centered around a group of misfit friends and their love of cars and crime.
Led by a cool cast of Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster, the Los Angeles-based street racing enthusiasts walk a fine line between having fun and conducting highway raids.
There are plenty of things to like about 'Fast,' from the sensory overload from the sights and sounds to the camaraderie among the main actors. Of course, the film is pretty over the top and at times ridiculous, and dialogue is not a top priority.
There are also some cringeworthy special effects and filming techniques that are dated to say the least. Still, 'Fast' is not supposed to be a high class film - it's supposed to be an energetic, entertaining ride, so it's acceptable to overlook these aspects.
So yes, even though it's not a perfect movie, 'The Fast and the Furious' is fun enough to get by, and if it weren't the kind of film that it is, it's possible that the series wouldn't have developed into what it is today.
