Review of The Fast and the Furious (2001) by Jamie R — 28 Jul 2013

'The Fast and The Furious' tells the story of Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker), an undercover cop, whose assignment is to find out whether or not an elite race crew (which consists of Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), Mia Toretto (Jordana Brewster), Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez) and more) has been stealing electronics.

The plot is a common one, 'Undercover cop must choose between the law and his new found friends', nothing original. Also, the script isn't outstanding either. The romance isn't that believable or in-depth, and it's not all too mind-bending, as in one's brain needs not to be engaged while watching the film. As I watched it I realized it was very basic and brainless,but it didn't stop me from enjoying the mindless action and driving sequences.

I have to say the film is a guilty pleasure of mine, for I just enjoy the action and cars, it's just fun, and apparently the audience did too, as the film grossed $207,283,925 worldwide. This shows just how many people will pay to see cars go fast and not much else. Now I know it seems like I don't like the film too much based on the last paragraph but on the lighter side, the writers and director of this film really weren't focused on story or acting. What they really cared about was the cars. And I'll tell you what, if there's one movie that'll display the best races and chases, this is the one, just don't expect a lot more. These things are what the film's all about, and they're awesome. They are done with skill and style and they deliver.
