Review of The Family Man (2000) by Debbie B — 09 May 2010
This magical Mirror Universe Christmas tale is more â??White Manâ??s Burdenâ?? than â??Itâ??s A Wonderful Life.â?? Woe, woe is the fast lane, childless investment broker! Nicolas Cage spends 3/4ths of the movie being a complete jackhole; snubbing his what-if-wife Tea Leoni at every available chance and belittling his pathetic middle class lifestyle.
When he finally does see angelic Don Cheadleâ??s lightâ??well, I just donâ??t buy it. Solid performances from Cage & Leoni and Danny Elfmanâ??s score is appropriately manipulative but I wish there had been a little less bastard attitude.
