Review of The Family Man (2000) by Alysia V — 22 Dec 2009
Beautiful story. My heart is warmed by this movie every time I watch it. Nicolas Cage, Jeremy Piven, Tea Leoni, Don Cheadle-they all do such a great job. I love that Jack Campbell goes through such a transformation of realizing that money cannot bring him true happiness.
There is so much more to life than fortune. The little girl in this movie is absolutely precious and I love when she so carefully inspects her father, which she believes has been taken over by an alien and says, "welcome to Earth.
" And then towards the end when they're playing in the snow and she says to Nic Cage, "I knew you'd come back." She's just darling! And the scene where Nicolas Cage is watching the video tape of his wife's birthday and when he sang to her.
..that scene brings a tear to my eye every time. The ending is both hopeful and sad. Sad because Jack Campbell's character has lost everything that he could've had and did have in his 'glimpse', had he made different life decisions but hopeful because it seems he finally realized that happiness is only real when shared and will hopefully be able to begin a new chapter of his life.
