Review of The Family Fang (2016) by Jamess — 10 Jul 2016
Since there's not a 6.5 available, I'll have to push it to a seven. With just two films under his belt, Jason Bateman has carved out an interesting niche as a director. Kind of a Michel Gondry-lite. With very good performances from Bateman and Kidman (and Walken being Walken, which is always fun), the film has a lot to say about art and artists and, of course family.
It reminded of The Skeleton Twins at times, mostly in the give and take relationship between siblings Bateman and Kidman. It may be slow at times, but it's worth a check out for the scenes featuring the "art pieces" and the actor playing the young Walken.
