Review of The Family (2013) by Tatiana F — 26 Apr 2014
I really liked this. not sure where all the hate is coming from. although ill just go ahead and admit that I love anything DeNiro and Michelle Pfeiffer are in. just being real. yes the family are horrible.
but I think you go into this expecting that. anyone who thought they were about to watch cute family film about a loving Italian family were clearly fooling themselves. I mean you get the set up from the movie trailer.
..come on people. its dark humor. the mom blows up a grocery store for crying out loud. but what I like about it is they are doing all the things that we all think about when we get pissed. yes the end takes a turn for the serious.
but I liked seeing the family take care of business. especially the kids. these arent normal people. I just imagine some of the haters sitting there with their black rimmed glasses that arent even prescription rolling their eyes at the lack of realism.
yes its unrealistic. but thats why we watch a comedy. thats really why most of us watch movies. DeNiro beats the heck out of a plummer because he lied to his wife and was going to give him the "run around".
any number of dads in the world probably would like to have done the exact same thing to their plummer. well guess what. this dad does. see?! thats the kinda stuff that makes this good. they get to do all the things we wish we could at times.
so stop being so high and mighty...get your noses out of the air. and watch the movie for what it is. yes its cheesy at times and yes its unrealistic. but its a story. its not meant to be real. but it sure is funny.
well at least for people that have a twisted sense of humor.
