Review of The Family (2013) by Hani H — 08 May 2014
Asking polite with a gun in your hand is always better than asking polite.
The Manzoni family is in the whiteness protection program due to the number of families that are in prison and want them dead. Their gangster behaviors make their identities easy to identify, so they are hid in France; unfortunately, even their behaviors in France may lead to suspicions returning to the US.
"You're not as illiterate as you seem.".
Luc Besson, director of Leon: The Professional, The Fifth Element, La Femme Nakita, Angel-A, Arthur and the Invisibles, The Lady, and the upcoming Lucy, delivers The Family. The storyline for this picture is fairly interesting but more of a black comedy of the gangster movie genre. The action scenes were very good and well done and the acting is solid. The cast includes Robert De Niro, Michelle Phifer, Tommy Lee Jones, John D'Leo, and Jimmy Palumbo.
"Girls are not some toy you fuck in the park.".
I was very excited to see this movie when the previews first came out and I saw the amazing cast and Luc Besson's directing. In the end, I felt this was just okay. It is better than average and definitely worth watching if you're a fan of the genre, I just don't think it is a classic that you need to add to your DVD collection.
"How can you live such a hellish existence?".
Grade: C+.
