Review of The Fall (2006) by Daniel G — 26 Apr 2010
An absolute feast to the eyes and senses and shot in real worldwide locations as opposed to CGI, this is a gorgeous adventure book just about perfect for grownups and kids alike. The chemistry between Aiden (the lead) and Catinca (the little girl) is magical at moments. How refreshing to see a real child playing a character and not a child actor, learning about the world.
It has a very dark side to it (how to deal with pain and avoid suicide pangs) counterbalanced with the fantasy which could prove a bit heavy for the little ones but since it is all due to love, it makes it more understandable in the romantic realm.
Parallels with "Pan's labyrinth" are easy to see.
Highly recommended.
