Evocative, gorgeous, engaging, inventive and often genuinely moving fantasy, blending a touching real world drama with some of the most striking fantasy sequences you'll see this side of an arthouse movie. Hitting every beat the disastrous Sucker Punch completely failed to, The Fall doesn't spell out too much of what's going on - you have to pay attention, picking up background details as the film stays at a child's eye level throughout, but by the closing scenes everything ties up perfectly.
If you like your Terry Gilliam movies but wish they were less chaotic, or have a soft spot for whimsy that knows to keep one foot on the ground, you'll enjoy the heck out of this.
