Review of The Faculty (1998) by David L — 03 Feb 2014
This is just a big bundle of Sci-Fi fun. Starring what can now be looked back upon as an all star cast, it features some of the up and coming talent of the 90's - Elijah Wood, Josh Hartnett, and even Usher to name a few.
Bring in the familiar faces of Famke Janssen and Robert 'bad terminator' Patrick, you have a well structured ensemble. The movie then splits the two age groups into the students and the faculty with the former realising that weird goings on are present within their teachers, with increasing evidence pointing to alien abduction as their movements become more laboured, and their thirst increases.
Similar to the concept of the The Thing, it's then a struggle to comprehend who's alien and who's human amongst the surviving group. With only a handful of Homemade drugs at their disposal (which appears to be the only thing to kill the enemy), the group must decide who to put their faith in, and who they cannot trust.
It's a bitter battle to the end as they hunt down the queen bee as it were, the alien who's death will return everything back to normal, but who will that be? It's a movie full of twists and turns, some obvious and others unexpected which will keep you entertained and guessing right up until the very end.
The special effects and moderate gore add further attraction to what is actually a hidden gem in terms of cult classics of the 90's.
