Review of The Faculty (1998) by Brandon W — 05 Jun 2015
Robert Rodriguez's The Faculty is a great horror that is underrated in my opinion. I know that it had been criticized for ripping off other movies that are a sci-fi and drama films, but I honestly think that it's more of a homage.
It does borrow films from Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Breakfast Club, and even The Thing for a bit, Robert Rodriguez and writer Kevin Williamson try to make it different and still make it a fun movie.
The acting is great, especially from Elijah Wood and Josh Hartnett. The writing is really good and tries to make cheeky jokes that work without making it feel like Scream. The effects are really good, but there were times that the CGI didn't look good and can look good and can look cheesy at times.
The characters are memorable, and there are some creepy moments in it. There's a lot of thrills that actually made me want the characters to survive. It's actually refreshing that it takes place in a school which the only horror films I can think of that take place are Carrir and Prom Night.
The Faculty is an unpredictable film that can be cheesy, but still be fun for its own movie.
