Review of The Extra Man (2010) by Wil R — 01 Dec 2010
The Extra Man had a lot of potential to be a strong comedy but there were many odd situations and weak character development to get it through. Kevin Kline is amusing as the older Henry Harrison. He definitely brings some charm to his character but it washed out at the same time by too much bitter cockiness.
Paul Dano plays his usual self and that isn't exactly good within this backdrop. Katie Holmes is fine but her character is on screen too little so it's not too impressionable. John C. Reilly as well is just weird and a character that is unneeded.
The film tries to redeem itself well at the end but it's not enough once you get pass Dano's desire to crossdress or the cockiness of the older supporting characters. A missed opportunity.
