Review of The Extra Man (2010) by 'Da L — 27 Jul 2010
Rex Reed was dead on regarding this dead film. It jumped around so much between characters and locales and themes that there was never a sense of being anywhere with anyone. I am unfamiliar with the book, but this movie had so many scenes populated by characters and themes that appeared to be poor cousins to those found in "Harold and Maude", "Midnight Cowboy".
"The Freshman", "Running with Scissors", "The Producers", "Rushmore", "The Royal Tenenbaums" just being a few that came to mind. One single scene from any of those films had ten times the emotion and truth than "The Extra Man".
And how often could characters (men and women) recite their lines in "Monty Python dressed as women" voices? Calling Mrs. Premise and Mrs. Conclusion! I am happy I saw it free on TV before it hit the theatre! No not happy.
Just fortunate I paid nothing for it.
