Review of The Exterminator (1980) by Kaj W — 26 May 2010
After his best friend and Vietnam colleague Michael Jefferson is paralysed by a gang of thugs in NYC, John Eastman goes on a personal vendetta to avenge him. But he decides that's not enough and goes on a vigilante spree to clean up the city streets of all the criminal elements. He gets the attention of the police and the CIA who want to stop his one-man war against crime.
After a promising start in Vietnam where we get to see one of the grossest beheadings on screen, the violence is toned down for the rest of the movie which was disappointing. The Exterminator was obviously a rip off of DEATH WISH. Robert Ginty gives an intense performance as the one man killing machine John Eastman. A decent enough 80's action/revenge movie.
