Review of The Expendables 3 (2014) by Andy W — 20 Dec 2014
The sort of movie where they wrote the actors' schedule first for the close up cutaways, then built the rest around it. It's more of the same: famous people turn up, sometimes with seemingly no reason, Wesley Snipes cracks a gag about being in jail for tax evasion, Ford looks sheepish and rightfully so.
.. The money is on-screen. Literally - it's like watching an account process cheques, and about as interesting. Stuff blows up, then there's some talky bits, then more stuff blows up... The action's fine, but it could all be so much more if it aimed higher.
As for the 12a rating - how did it get away with that?! Say what you will about mel Gibson, the man's still got it - he's the only one that delivers a performance and has a semblance of character.
