Review of The Expendables 3 (2014) by Andy G — 06 Feb 2015
Regardless of my low score, it's still a fun movie to watch and better than the other two in a few ways. I think the end battle was really fun and Mel Gibson did a really good job in his role, but on a more objective level, there's certainly a lot wrong with the movie. First of all, they recruit a bunch of unknown young people (unknown to me, anyway) which feels like it goes against the whole point of the series to begin with. While the movie did have a lot of big names in it, it felt like a lot less than the previous movies, despite the original trailer suggesting otherwise. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Harrison Ford were significantly underused. The CGI was terrible and overused. It also seems like the audio of the movie wasn't mixed that great, making it hard to hear what people were saying at times. Also, even though I was watching the unrated extended cut, it still felt like it was PG-13, which felt a bit tame for the series. Nevertheless, if you enjoyed the other two, it's worth a watch. Yeah it's a low quality film, like the others, but it's still fun.
