Review of The Expendables 3 (2014) by Matt B — 14 Feb 2015
I like The Expendables movies. They're loud, dumb and preposterous. But darn it if they aren't fun. One can tell just by watching that all the guys had a absolute ball making these movies.
The third installment is probably the best in the series, both technically and story-wise. That isn't saying much, however. The PG-13-fication is glaringly obvious, with little very blood in the midst of the mayhem, despite the body count. And some of the special effects are obviously CGI and green screen.
It's just fun to see these aged action stars embracing their beefed-up personas and having fun with it. Schwarzenegger was particularly charming, hamming it up and riffing one of his most famous lines...twice. Gibson is an awesome villain and chews the scenery with maniacal gusto.
