Review of The Expendables 3 (2014) by Lou A — 07 Jun 2015
One of the most lackluster action films ever made. It is a prime example of a wasted opportunity by completely squandering its greatest new cast members. First, it goes out of its way to introduce and develop Wesley Snipes' character, and then barely gives him any importance for the rest of the film.
Kelsey Grammar and Harrison Ford do almost nothing, Mel Gibson should have been way more fun as a villain, Ronda Rousey is completely one-dimensional, and Lutz and Ortiz may as well be non-existent. But the film's biggest mistake was choosing to have an overly serious tone, when its predecessor was fun and successful by being humorous and self-referential.
Even the action scenes are unremarkable, sloppily shot and edited, have dull locations, and consist of nothing but machine-gun firing.
