Review of The Expendables (2010) by Tor M — 03 Sep 2014
A fest of old heroes. Old one-faced heroes. This is the fest of the cliche-heroes. It seem halfway made. Hostages that's just stand there like props, waiting to be executed - no screaming, nothing. Cheap logos, posters everywhere, it reminds me of a videogame. Tthe fighting is as expected very present and very overdone. Sadly it's also very, very fast. You don't see much, it's clipping shots several times a second at times. Some blood, some dead dudes, some shooting and knives. The biggest, sharpest and most throwable knives in the world. Some cool references from the actors personal lives, it's both charming and a bit nostalgic. I like that part. Rourke is also a highlight - he does best of the actors, even with the average script.
This is not a boring film, I rearly wanna shut it off, it keeps me interested. That's not a bad feature. For it's genre it's very solid I would say. A rushed last third and an incredibly weak last scene is not a plus, though. I never really enjoyed the plot either.
4 out of 10 testosteron boosts.
