Review of The Expendables (2000) by Jaime L — 19 Aug 2012
This movie is a blast from the past; back in the late 80's or the early 90's the more succesful movies were those in which the action stars were present; I'm talking about Silvester Stallone; Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mel Gibson and Bruce Willis to name a few; they were the superstars of the moment, and their movies were huge blockbusters; then Hollywood changed and they weren't needed anymore.
Ten years later we have this movie which is exactly like those movies were in the past; the good guys against the bad guys, and the movie is actually pretty good because is a reunion of many of the action superstars that make a lot noise in the past; and some current action stars.
I have to admit I was skeptical about this movie because most of the actors are pretty old but fortunately I was wrong because they have a lot of energy and the action sequences look really good. Hollywood doesn't do movies like this anymore; the movie is good because of many things: It's good to see Silvester Stallone like in the old days kicking some asses; it's good to see the combination between young action stars and old ones and don't see the differences; it's good to see Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger in the same movie with Silvester Stallone despite that they only do a cameo; it's really good to see a fight between Jet Li and Dolph Lundgren; it's good to see Silvester Stallone getting his ass kicked by Steve Austin.
In sum up this movie is really good because this is how a good action movie should be. Two Thumbs up for Silvester Stallone; and I'm looking forward fot the second part.
