Review of The Expendables (2000) by Luca D — 31 Aug 2012
Mindless, entertaining pulp, replete with blood stained windscreens and chunks of flesh being blown up into pieces, especially the first 20 minutes of the film. Weirdly enjoyable, not least because of the cast's self-effacing humour, but limited to 2 lines at the most, at any one time.
It's the same feeling you get when meeting your long-lost pals, and welcoming them back with opened arms. A very warm, fuzzy throwback to the retro 80's when Arnold, Lundgren, Sylvester & Willis graced the silver screens.
They may all look like sea dogs, but their camaraderie and self-deprecating humour are what's missing in today's hot shots. You guys did good.
