Review of The Expendables 2 (2012) by Bradleycohen — 29 Aug 2012
Some films represent a director's vision for a masterpiece. Other films are nothing more than the wild fantasies of boys and men. The Expendables 2 is certainly the latter. It's an example that not all films have to be epic masterpieces or avant-grade art galleries.
As a sequel to the first Expendables film, there is relativity little continuity. But with plenty of explosions, gunfire, crazy stunts and the world's greatest action stars, you have the perfect recipe for a mindless action romp.
With corny one-liners, a satisfying climax and vehicle stunts that you wish you could try at home (but probably shouldn't), The Expendables 2 is great for bachelor parties and mens' night out. To sum it all up, The Expendables 2 is like a video game come to life, complete with a throwaway story, quirky jokes and more lead than a pencil factory (even though pencils don't use lead anymore, but how else could I have made that joke?").
If you want some serious drama, then this film is not for you.
