Review of The Expendables 2 (2012) by Scubasteve Walter M — 28 Jul 2014
Now we can all say, all of them are back! Norris and Van Damme are now added on to the roster of this explosive film of 2012. Norris became a pun of the story which is good as the movie was going for that comedy feel more than the action. Van Damme had less role in the film even for the villain. We didn't get to see more of his high-flying kicks that much. Willis and Schwarzenegger have more spotlight on the film. Gunning around bad guys with Stallone. This sacrificed the appearance of Li who was just in the film at about 15 minutes.
Compared to the first movie, this turned to be 60 percent more comedy than action. It's one of those few movies where you get to laugh through violence. Somebody's head get blown off and you're still laughing. Some of their lines are hilarious because they are making fun of themselves and their history as action stars. All in all, I think the comedy was great but I preferred more action from these guys.
Action is less intense compare to the first movie. It was alright, you get to see Statham and his knives again, "I pronounce you man and knife!". That was one of his best lines in the movie. Given that, the brutality of kills on this sequel is more devastating in the eyes which men loves and I hope the girls have the stomach for it. In addition, more of Jet Li's action would be better than Stallone getting more of the action scenes with Van Damme.
Though I'd like the first better than this sequel, this is still nice to see on the big screen for the weekends. If Stallone had directed this, I think it be more awesome.
