Review of The Expendables 2 (2012) by Dan F — 10 Aug 2014
If you're planning on watching this, you're probably into gritty, amoral action movies. You won't be disappointed here. Sure, the post modern self awareness of some scenes is eye-rollingly painful at times, but Simon West choreographs the action well, and gives his ageing stars a chance to shine as individuals with their various toys, but it's the finale's gleeful parade of eighties action stars and two brilliant but brief hand to hand fight scenes that top the bill.
If you're looking for smarts, you should know you aren't going to find it here. But if you're looking for the elite of action cinema orchestrated by the director of Con Air and the associated bone crunching, explosions and cheese, you're in for a treat.
Huge, guilty pleasure. And some of the most joyfully retarded dialogue I've heard in a long time. "Man and knife" indeed.
