Review of The Expedition (1962) by Martin T — 23 Jul 2009
An excellent Ray film, blending the primary theme of caste ingeniously with religion and an examination of how under it all, everyone's just the same. It is culturally specific, so if you don't really understand post-colonial Indian culture, you will be confused and a bit lost.
You also have to put everything into its cultural perspective which is hard if you aren't well-versed in Indian customs and tradition. I do think that everyone should watch at least 1 Satyajit Ray movie in their lifetime.
.. but this may not be it for everyone. I, however, greatly enjoyed it. A-.
