Review of The Exorcist III (1990) by Sandy R — 18 May 2010
Vastly underrated and under-appreciated sequel despite the III in the title. William Peter Blatty wanted to call the film Legion but the producers insisted on having 'Exorcist' in the title to cash in.
He also bent to pressure from the producers and subsequently changed the original story. However The Exorcist III is an incredibly creepy mixture of thriller and supernatural horror. The atmosphere is amongst the best from any horror film I have ever seen.
This film contains some wonderfully creepy imagery which should be indelibly burned into your mind. The climatic scene featuring a bizarre 'negro christ' is extraordinary. The Exorcist III is intelligent and thought provoking which is rare for the majority of horror films, especially nowadays.
