Review of The Exorcist III (1990) by Keith C — 27 Nov 2011
The last 20 minutes are a silly mess - a very transparent studio attempt to try to make the movie parallel the original more closely, and as a result it feels detached from the rest of the film. But, to dismiss the film entirely based on the cheesy ending would be stupid.
For the first 85 minutes, Exorcist III is just about as good a horror movie as I've ever encountered - tense, imaginative and engrossing. The dialogue is extraordinarily sharp, and William Peter Blatty shows a flair for directing that makes me really wish he'd done more of it.
Plus, Brad Dourif is amazing at being terrifying.
