Though The Exorcist is as old as I am it is by far the scariest movie I've ever seen. Maybe it's because it's rooted in a true story or maybe it's that little part of your mind that understands that perhaps this is actually possible (even if you're an Atheist a small part of your mind will hold out and wonder what if). The fact the film is brilliantly acted, beautifully crafted and doesn't rely on cheap "scares" to get your pulse up certainly puts it head and shoulders above 90% of it's peers. This is the type of horror film that stays with you long after the credits roll. Some have complained that it has a slow build but the film was made prior to the ADHD generation and the slow burn helps grow the tension.

If there is any doubt in your mind that this is one of the greatest horror films ever than just ask yourself why so many other films try to get in on the "Exorcism" niche. It certainly isn't by accident but has everything to do with the legacy of The Exorcist.
