Review of The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005) by Renzo V — 15 Nov 2014
"PRIEST ON TRIAL AFTER FAILED EXORCISM".
- 'The Exorcism of Emily Rose' is a 2005 horror drama directed by Scott Derrickson (Sinister, Deliver Us From Evil). The film is loosely based on the true story of Anneliese Michel. The film has of course many resemblances to 'The Exorcist', but can't tip the same level. Yet, the story focuses more on the trial of Father Richard Moore. There are some cool scenes, and overall I did enjoy the movie. In the cast we see Laura Linney (Congo, Love Actually), Tom Wilkinson (Michael Clayton, The Lone Ranger) and Jennifer Carpenter (Quarantine, Tv-series Dexter ).
Ambitious lawyer Erin Bruner (Linney) accepts to take on the defend of Father Richard Moore (Wilkinson), who is charged with negligent homicide during the exorcism of a young girl named Emily Rose (Carpenter). Although all people who are present at the trial feel skeptical about the fact that the girl was possessed, her family sticks by the priest. As the witnesses testify, we see the flashbacks of what really happened. Is Richard Moore guilty or not?
