Review of The Evil Gene (2016) by Kayla M — 26 Sep 2016
When I first heard of this film, I was unbelievably excited. The trailer made it look phenomenal. I spent months wondering when and how I could see it. Disappointment set in when I discovered it was submitted to a film festival only.
The excitement returned, however, when I learned it was to be released to the general public. I'm a sucker for Indie films and horror movies alike, but it's rare that I look forward to any Indie Horror.
When it was released on Amazon Video, I purchased it and settled into watch. It's a good film with a great concept, but some of the acting really fell flat for me. Cameron Richardson was great and it was such a refreshing experience to see her in a role like this.
The real star of the show is Richard Speight Jr, whose acting was phenomenal as I've come to expect over the years. It was, just as with Cameron, a role very different from what I'm used to, but he gave a completely stellar performance that may have anyone on the edge of their seat.
Overall, I would definitely watch this film again and I will be recommending it to all Indie Horror fans I know or come across.
