Looks truly deceive in the case of Sam Raimi's first-ever feature. Yes it looks as campy as the title might suggest; an all around pointless attempt at horror film making. For those who believe this gore fest will waste a good hour and twenty-five watching this, read the first sentence of this review.

Firstly: the film's short run-time definitely feels stretched, as suspense prolongs each and every scare almost perfectly. I'll admit, I still jumped at times even having seen it already. Secondly: some of you might need a strong stomach to watch this.

That's right, the crappy special effects are gross enough to cause a few gags, or worse. Lastly: not only does this film cause possible nightmares and belly-aches, it does a fabo job at poking a bit of fun at itself and other horror movies like it.

That's where this film stands as a clever masterpiece. While presenting an original idea, it follows traditional B-horror movie rules, with mediocre acting, and below average effects, and yet every last bit of daylight is scared out of you by the very atmosphere of it all.

This legendary B-movie earns a solid B+.
