Review of The Evil Dead (1981) by Jordan A — 10 Nov 2012
I recently saw the Red Band trailer for the Evil Dead remake. The trailer made the movie look poorly directed, and it wasn't scary at all. Though I was underwhelmed by the trailer, I am still interested in the remake because of the reputation of the original trilogy. I decided to finally watch the classic horror trilogy.
The Evil Dead is a silly, classic horror film filled with jump scares and oddities. The movie isn't really scary, funny, or entertaining. There were a few scenes that had the potential to be scary, but they were ultimately unsuccessful due to the campy nature of the film. None of the characters are particularly interesting, likable or memorable. There is some cool stop-motion animation at the end, but it doesn't really fit in with the rest of the scene. I was a disappointed The Evil Dead, but I hope that Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness are scarier, funnier and more enjoyable than the original Evil Dead.
Oh, there's also a scene where a girl is raped by plants.
Rating: 5.8/10.
