Review of The Evil Dead (1981) by Sidney S — 23 Mar 2013
Dark, brutal and no doubt one of the most demented and scariest films I have ever seen. The Evil Dead is a true masterpiece of the horror genre it blends the cliched style of the "teen" horror movies and mixes it with almost a zombie styled film but the outcome is something completely shocking and jaw dropping.
Director Sam Raimi truly creates a legacy with this low budget film that propelled him to Hollywood stardom. The Evil Dead is frightening from the moment that cursed book is open and the "spirits" or whatever you wish to call it begin taking over each of the film's cast. Once possessed the makeup, special effects and sounds are frightening, creepy and truly one of a kind. I really like how unlike many 80's horror films this was not predictable, in fact quite the opposite many strange and messed up events take place in this which helps propel this high up and horror movie charts.
Bruce Campbell also made his career out of the film's protagonist "Ash" who is scared, confused and truly does not know what to do in this situation, his girlfriend and friends have been taken over and are after him what does he do, he is also presumed next! This film is truly edge of your seat from start to finish and will get some screams as well as laughs out of you. This film's end just leaves you wondering what happens next and makes you wanting more Evil Dead.
