Review of The Evil Dead (1981) by Aaron R — 12 Apr 2013

I'm going to see the new remake or reboot or whatever there calling it very soon, so I decided to watch the originals to prepare and to also see what this classic Sam Raimi film had in store for me. This was obviously done with a very small budget, which gives me more respect for the film. Although I did not see the "black humor involved with this film I very much enjoyed this great movie. This film in a way created the genre (the horror genre) that is, and with this plot re-done and done again to a small quill, it may not come fresh to us. But at the time this was very fresh and something original, I was actually refreshed by the practical effects even though they seem cheesy and fake to us watching in this decade they were defiantly GREAT back in 81. We are constantly smothered with horrible CGI in almost every movie now-a-days. That even practical effects that are over 30 years old are a refreshment. Even the camera work was very original to me.

You have to look at this movie as the setting stool of all horror films. It crafted what has become old and warn out garbage. But this was original and great. Its a shame that all horror movies now-a-days just use this plot to reel in cash.
