Evil Dead is well-directed to the credit of Sam Raimi, but is filled with characters that matter zilch, ridiculous amounts of gore/violence, and a story that starts out interesting but ends poorly. While it's sure to entertain gore hounds and people who care little about strong storytelling and character development, it won't win over people who prefer atmospheric and tension-building horror classics.
