Review of The Evil Dead (1981) by Emile H — 07 Aug 2016
Sam Raimi is a great visual director with a penchant for movement, and the original Evil Dead is a sign of it. The characters are great, with many of the actors alternating between normal and possessed at its weirdest.
All the while Bruce Campbell's evolution from unhappy camper to reluctant hero is well acted and directed. It runs with its scary premise and does much with its low budget to create a kick-ass horror film that puts the natural in supernatural.
The gore, crazy camera work, and camp factor are the film's biggest advantages, and it's not ashamed to show how extreme it is.
