Review of The Evil Dead (1981) by Billy G — 28 May 2017
While it feels kind of like a test run for the superior 'Evil Dead II', this film stands on its own as a mostly entertaining B-movie gore-fest with some laughs thrown into the mix. The plot involves a young man named Ash and a group of college friends spending the weekend at a cabin deep in the woods.
After accidentally unleashing the un-dead while leafing through an ancient tome, the group must fight for their survival over the course of the night. 'The Evil Dead' has a mixture of campy and creepy special effects that add to the atmosphere of the film.
However, one of the main flaws is a scene where a possessed tree rapes one of the young women. This is an unnecessary scene that detracts from the story and takes the exploitation aspects too far.
