Review of The Equalizer (2014) by Tyler S — 09 Feb 2015
As always Denzel steals the screen in this Crime Drama film that starts off slow. He plays it seems an average guy, with an average job just doing his thing. What we learn about a fourth of the way in is that he has a violent past. He meets a girl played by Grace Mortez at a diner that he goes to every single night like clockwork.
She plays a stripper who he ends up befriending on his night visits. When he finds out she was put in the hospital by the guys who she works for (escort service) he starts to change. He goes and visits the men and tells them he will give them cash if they leave her alone.
They decline and he makes them pay. This scene sets off the movie as we learn he has killed some pretty important people and the associates are going to try and kill him.
His quiet life is turned around as he is pursued by all angles.\.
I liked the film but it just seemed to work to well and be way to predictable in the second half. I would of loved to see the second half take a non cliche path; instead of i.e bad guys hunt good guy and good prevails, take it somewhere else to entertain us. I knew exactly what was going to happen after 30 minutes and the intrigue was gone.
This doesn't mean Denzel wasn't great because he was. The guy is one o the best actors of the last 20 years and he saves the credibility of this movie.
