The Equalizer is a rare breed of movie: it borrows from other films, everything from Sin City to Mr. and Mrs. Smith, yet it manages to be original enough to deserve a high rating. Unlike most generic action flicks, this one has round, multi-dimensional characters who you actually care about, and the script and screenplay are smart and well thought out.
The movie is over-the-top and extreme, but it is very entertaining, thanks to smart action sequences and good acting.
