Review of The Equalizer (2014) by Lewis E — 08 Feb 2015
Plays out how you would expect a Denzel film of this genre - they even threw in the stereotypical Russian gangsters as the villains. The action scenes are set up with a lack of subtlety but are executed with enough skill to keep you sufficiently entertained.
It's hard to go wrong with Mr Washington but Chloe Grace Moretz is miscast as the victim prostitute. Maybe it's because many continue to associate her with adolescent roles such as Hit-Girl but I reckon they should have gone for a more mature actress (she is still only 17 in real life).
She lacks the experience to do these roles and she ends up coming across as a child playing dress-up in her mummy's clothes. Luckily she is not in the film often enough to bring any major detriment to it while calm badass Denzel will more often than not pleases audiences to the extent to which they don't care much about other aspects of the movie.
