Review of The Equalizer (2014) by Daniel E — 18 Mar 2015
I loved Edward Woodward's portrayal of McCall in the original series and it certainly didn't need updating. The good thing then is, this film has very little to do with the series, if anything it would be an origin story, a precursor to the series - should Washington ever feel like continuing.
But ideally this will remain a stand-alone film, it's far above average thriller material. It takes its time to gently develop its characters. It doesn't explain, just lets us be with McCall - when he acts, he acts exceedingly well.
But its all the many quiet moments in between that arebrave, strong acting and directing both.
