Review of The Equalizer (2014) by Teemu P — 20 Jun 2015
Denzel Washington is at his best as the mysterious man with a volatile set of skills. Robert 'Bob' McCall works a job meant to give him a private quiet life. He meets a young girl Teri in a diner whose working for the Russian mob as their prostitute.
Bob becomes friends with Teri, inspiring her to pursue her dream as a singer & talking about the books he reads. Bob doesn't get between the mob and Teri until the mob abuses Teri & puts her in the hospital.
Bob can't sit on the sidelines while Teri's life hangs in the balance. What happened in Bob's past that kept him in the shadows gives him a moment of hesitation until he can't handle the injustice anymore.
Once Bob goes after the Russians, he tries to negotiate a non violent truce at first, only to find himself taking them out one by one. It is an action packed insane thrill ride of a movie, and you can't help but cheer Bob on.
..it is never revealed how Bob became this specialized killer that he is...giving him an air of mystery that makes him even more dangerous. Antoine Fuqua has a very cool directing visual style with great camera work & timing that never slows down.
