Review of The Equalizer (2014) by Brandon W — 28 Jun 2016
The Equalizer is directed by Antoine Fuqua, and it stars Denzel Washington in an action adaptation of the 1985 CBS show with the same title. It's about a guy who's living a normal life, but when a child prostitute gets beaten up pretty badly, Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) takes life matter in her own hands and kills the owners, which brings out the Russian Mafia after him.
When I'm hanging out at my friend's house, I saw that he had HBO on DirecTV, and I looked through the guide, I saw that this movie was getting close to the time. I'm glad that I got to see it as The Equalizer is a great movie.
Denzel Washington is fantastic in this and he gives the movie more of a depth. The conversations between Robert and Teri are pretty interesting to listen to, and it made me care more about Denzel's character, and Chloe's character also.
The action scenes are very fun to watch, even though it may seem that Denzel Washington's character doesn't have much vulnerability to it until there was a bit of it in the end. The plot is pretty standard stuff, and the villain is not much of a memorable one except for his interesting backstory.
The way it sets up the action scenes is pretty interesting, and the score by Henry Gregson-Williams is pretty neat to listen, and the direction by Antoine Fuqua is pretty tight. It's overlong that I think that there is some parts that are not needed and can be edited out.
I can see people saying that The Equalizer is an extended episode, but I have a great time with it, even if it is generic stuff.
