Review of The Equalizer (2014) by Cynthia J — 09 May 2017

This movie is the purest example of style over substance. I enjoyed some of the tense moments in this movie but I felt there were serious pacing issues. The movie maintain's a good atmosphere and of course, Denzel Washington is great.

However, I found myself just waiting for action scenes, and there really aren't a whole lot. I feel the length could have been reduced and that might have resulted in a better movie. The violence is stylish and slick and I enjoyed the over the top nature of it but I felt the movie could have been much better.

It doesn't bring anything new to the table story-wise, but it has a few stylistic tricks up it's sleeve that are worth checking out. As a whole, it is just an average action movie.
