In an era of endless terrible remakes, The Equalizer stands out for the quality of its main star and its director in taking a standard action story and elevating it to something better. Denzel Washington is brilliant as Robert McCall, a former agent living the quiet life until a friend is brutally beaten by a Russian mobster.
He can stand by no longer and uses his skills to bring justice. Dark, violent and very entertaining.
