Review of The Equalizer 2 (2018) by Greg C — 21 Jul 2018
He stops stirring and taps against the side exactly 8 times, then puts spoon to the side. What separates journeyman from master craftsman? In the Equalizer II, Denzel Washington and team are striving to make a few key points.
A young man should not waste his talent. Don't kill my friends. One might call it a bit preachy. There is an attempt to raise a boilerplate action movie to a higher level of art. The storm, a literal hurricane, arrives as the storm of the story hits its apex.
Director Antoine Fuqua takes his time. There is a lot of telegraphing of who is good and bad, of who will live and who will die. In the end, this is a well made if banal effort. I like the first one better, mostly because Washington's Robert McCall counted out the expected number of seconds for a take down.
And as always after one of these films, now I feel like I need to deep clean and declutter my house.
